Gateway Dulcimer Music Festival

August 7 (pm), 8, 9, 10 (am) – 2008

Location will be at The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Visitor Center, 451 De Mazenod Dr., Belleville, IL 62223. Website is: www.snows.org

Registration can be done by postal mail (pre-registration) or in person at the time of the festival. On-Site registrations WILL NOT receive the lunches. Registration for the festival workshops is not limited in number, as the Shrine meeting rooms are quite spacious. The pre-registration deadline is July 25, 2008. Registration forms postmarked after July 25, 2008 WILL NOT receive the lunches.

Workshops are held Friday and Saturday, beginning at 9:00 AM on both days. The workshops will break for one hour for lunch. A listing of general workshop topics and times will be posted on our website at least six weeks before the festival. The address is www.gatewaydulcimer.org All classes are held in the Shrine Conference Center or Motel. We will try to have several classes Thursday evening, such as MD & HD introduction, plus jamming.

A hymn sing will be held on Sunday morning in the Christ the King Chapel at 9:00 AM for all who are interested. No workshops will be held on Sunday and the Festival concludes after the hymn sing.

(2) several motels within 5-10 miles, and (3) camping within 10-15 miles.

Our website: www.gatewaydulcimer.org has a list of local motels and campgrounds with their phone numbers. Most are within a 10-15 minute drive from the Shrine. The campgrounds are "user friendly" and secure.

Meals – A soup and salad buffet lunch is included in the price of registration for both Participants and Non-Participants

The Shrine has a dining room, which is available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the general public and to those festivalgoers who are so inclined. This is not a fast-food establishment. You can choose a buffet meal or order from a menu. There are other restaurants in the area for your meals if you choose to leave the Shrine area. The Shrine Motel serves a Continental breakfast.

Accompanying persons- For those who will be accompanied by non-playing family members or friends, there are plenty of other things to do in the area. More information about local attractions may be found by calling the Tourism Bureau Southwestern Illinois

We are not offering specific children’s classes, but children who would like to take classes are welcome to do so with a parent. Children under 12 who take classes must register at the special children’s rate.

Concerts – The workshop instructors will perform in evening concerts, which will be held both Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM. Concert tickets are included with both Participant and Non-Participant registrations. Additional tickets may be purchased at the door for $10 each. The evening concerts will be held in the Church of Our Lady of the Snows. This is close to the Conference Center & Motel.

Open Stage - There will be an informal Open Stage, Friday and Saturday during the day. Participants and Non-Participants are welcome to sign up for a performing time slot. This will be in the Visitor Center Theater area. Sound equipment is not needed.

Music-related vendors will have booths at the Conference Center both Friday and Saturday.

Resale Table - This table will offer you the opportunity to sell your musical instruments or music related items. The Gateway Dulcimer Society will receive 5% of your sale price. This is a good way to recycle unused music items.

Jamming space will be available all 3 nights.
